Best Fast Diets, Is Fasting Good For You?

Although for years my research into diets has always had a common approach - consume less, exercise more and don't skip meals. I felt that a diet that specifically said that fasting, or skipping meals, was good for you, was worth a look.

Best Fast Diets are probably explained most simply by the participant's belief in a 5 to 2 ratio. That is for 5 days of the week you eat normally and for 2 days you fast.
I have always assumed that fasting was one of the punishments that religions impose on their followers to keep them faithful. Didn't seem much of a reward for sticking to the rules to me, but let's get back to how the proponents suggest that the best fast diet works.

The best fast diet doesn't say starve for two days a week but does say reduce your calorie intake to a quarter, that is 500 for women and 600 for men. Also these calories should be consumed night and morning only, eat nothing during the day. Still sounds like a punishment to me.
Although they do say that if you are finding the fasting day difficult, relief is only one day away. Better than Mafeking I suppose.

When sifting through the opinions given by many who had tried the best fast diet, or were still on it, the overwhelming response was that the weight loss was both small and slow. I don't neccessarily think that this is a bad thing. Remember that in this case "fast" does not mean quick, further more slow and steady can win the race. Whether the weight comes of quickly or slowly is less important than if it stays off, permanently.
Although forums are not a true reflection of the effectiveness of the best fast diet there would appear to be a similar ratio of believers and leavers as most other diet plans.

Whether you reduce your weekly consumption of calories on two specific days or throughout the week the results would appear to be the same.

I am aware of the research that has been carried out for some time at the Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention project based in Manchester. As a result of their studies the scientists are forming the opinion that "levels of insulin and leptin fall quickly (within 24 hours) when we eat less, so cells can put more effort into staying in top condition".

No argument there then. Let us hope that their research will produce beneficial results in cancer prevention, but it shouldn't take years of research to conclude that eating less can keep your cells in better condition.
If you are dieting for health reasons or for vanity, and for most of us it's both, taking better care of yourself is just plain good sense.
