Advantages and disadvantages of Lap Band Surgery

In an effort to find the ultimate solution for weight loss, medical researchers have developed a variety of methods and diets. One is the band stomach surgery. This is a simple method in which a covering strip (short for laparoscopic gastric band) is placed in the upper stomach. This creates a small pouch that the amount of food a person takes limited. The cover strip itself is made of silicon and can be inflated and deflated within the human body.

Contrary to the beliefs of some people, just because someone has a gastric band surgery does not mean that people can immediately their old eating habits on. In fact, there is a special diet to follow immediately after gastric band surgery. This can be a disadvantage by some people (inconvenience), others may not see the same way.

The gastric band diet consists of three phases - the liquid phase of food, mashed phase and the regime of the regular season. The first phase lasts for about two weeks after surgery. As the name implies, the patient will only clear liquids allowed. These include broth, clear soup and fruit juices. Mashed phase follows and lasts two weeks. In this phase, the patient can already eat foods rich in proteins, which is to be cut into small pieces rich. The last phase translates the fifth or sixth week in which the patient slowly add fruits, vegetables, carbohydrates, low in fat and similar proteins. Meat, bread fiber and yet it is not permitted, however.

A big advantage of lap band surgery is the procedure itself. It is relatively easy, and the patient should be hospitalized, so it can be done. The patient may also normal activities within a few days of operation - up on food that is.

Another advantage of the lap band surgery is pain associated with it - is minimal. This is especially important if the effects of the gastric bypass and similar surgical procedures compared. In addition, gastric bypass, the patient is at increased risk for infection. This is due to the fact that when the stomach is full, the contents do not tend to other parts of the body, such as flee with gastric bypass. In addition, placing a cover band does not mean that the risk of dumping syndrome. This is where the patient is an intolerance to carbohydrates and sugar. Dumping syndrome is associated with gastric bypass surgery.

Of course, the gastric band can have its drawbacks. On the one hand people can not equipped with a gastric band with certain diseases such as ulcers and GERD. Recommend to people outside the age group of 18 and 55 is not for surgery or gastric banding, although there are exceptions to this rule. Here too strict diet rules awkward for some people.
