What is your healthy body weight



Everywhere we "perfect" in the western world we are adding photos, images, symbols and conclusions of the shape of the women flooded! The truth is that many of these images are altered or enhanced in any way and do not represent the typical female form. The pressure to lose weight is great if every day we are bombarded with the media to sell products based on thinness, sex appeal and fashion. The constant message is that thinness make you desirable.

With the population growth in the Western countries, with a view of the sea rich in fat, high sugar combined with lack of exercise; it's time to pay attention to our weight, but not all of the convenience. The most important thing to want to be a healthy weight for health reason is not the appearance of the body.

Overweight and obesity are major health problems in the Western countries. Since the 1980s, the two men, women and children gained weight, obesity more than doubled in the last 20 years! Children are more severe. There is growing concern that we inadvertently become our obese children become obese adults. It has been said, we are digging our graves with their teeth! How can we determine what a healthy weight for each one?

How do you know if you are overweight

As we all different shapes and sizes, weight is not recommended for your height. Instead, there is a set of weights that are healthy for your height. One way to control your weight is to calculate your Body Mass Index or BMI.

Your BMI is the ratio or the comparison of size and weight, expressed as a number. To find out your BMI you need your weight (measured in kilograms) divided by height (in meters) squared. If you do not know your measurements in the metric system, you will find a number of online BMI calculator that will do the conversion for you by empirical measurements. The thought of BMI weight classes definitions are:
- Underweight - BMI of less than 18.5
- Healthy Weight - BMI between 18.5 and 24.9
- Obese - BMI equal to or greater than 25 and up to 29.9
- Obesity - BMI equal to or greater than 30

These BMI values are valid only for adults over 18 years are based on studies of the Caucasian population. They are therefore not suitable for children and young people, and not for people of other cultures.

Another way to control your weight is to measure your waist circumference with a tape measure. This gives you an idea if you have placed a lot of fat around the middle. Waist are associated with higher health risks:

- For waist circumference 94cm older men
- For waist circumference greater than 80 cm Women

As a healthy weight can help:
- Improvement of blood cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels in the blood
- Reduce the risk of other health problems
- Improving self-confidence and self-esteem
- Make it easier to be physically active.

If you are overweight or obese ... try not to gain extra weight. This will help in the coming years, as people tend to gain weight with age.
